Paint the Town Red

On Jan. 27, more than 1,000 people attended the 20th annual Paint the Town Red event hosted by the American Heart Association of Northwest Arkansas and presented by “Life is Why” sponsors The Emerson Group and Northwest Health, as well as “Healthy for Good” sponsor RB. This year’s event chairman was Jason Fremstadand this year’s theme was “Paint Through the Decades, Vol. III,” where guests were asked to dress in outfits inspired by fashion and movies of the 1920s through today. The evening, held at Fayetteville Town Center, featured fare from 17 area restaurants and included the Reynolds “Taste of the Town” Restaurant Competition, featuring a secret ingredient, French Mustard. Ella’s Table was the overall winner, Fork & Crust Pie Co. won in the category of Most Creative Bite, Local Lime was winner of Best Overall Taste, Crabby’s Seafood Bar & Grill won Best Presentation, and Dot’s Nashville Hot Chicken won for Best Use of Secret Ingredient. Guests also enjoyed a silent auction and entertainment by DJ Derrick. The event raised more than $330,000 for the education outreach, research and AHA initiatives. Live United Awards Luncheon

United Way of Northwest Arkansas hosted the annual Live United Awards Luncheon at The Jones Center in Springdale on Jan. 23. The event celebrated the campaign coordinator volunteers and the money that has been raised so far with several campaigns yet to close. United Way of NWA CEO, Jackie Hancock; former ESPN, Fox Sports and NFL Network analyst, Danyelle Musselman; and KNWA’s Jason Suel spoke to the nearly 150 guests about the impact made through the campaigns and the people who run them. A total of 80 awards were distributed to local organizations and community volunteers celebrated the impact these individuals and organizations are having in the United Way’s goal to provide children and families a pathway out of poverty in our area. This year’s Volunteer of the Year was Shane Acosta of Cargill for his hard work and dedication for the annual United Way of NWA Golf Tournament. www.unitedwaynwa.org

Soup Sunday

On Jan. 26, Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families hosted its 19th Annual Soup Sunday at the John Q. Hammons Convention Center in Rogers. More than 1,000 guests circulated the ballroom sampling over 30 different soups, breads and sweets from local restaurants and vendors. The event featured a “Sunday Best” contest, in which guests voted for their favorite soup and the winner was the Hatch Green Chile created by Chef Guadalupe Ramirez from Local Lime in Rogers. Through ticket sales, donations, and silent and live auctions, the event exceeded its $155,000 goal resulting in another record-breaking year benefiting the organization. www.aradvocates.org

Moonlight Masquerade 

The Junior League of Northwest Arkansas hosted its 8th annual Moonlight Masquerade on Jan. 31 at Fayetteville Town Center. More than 240 tickets, including corporate and individual tables and individual tickets, were sold. The event included a silent auction, music sponsored by Brock Entertainment, dinner provided by Big Sexy Foods, Café Rue Orleans, IDK Cafe + Catering, and Tyler’s Craft BBQ. League president Beth Emmanuel and event chair Ashley Peterson welcomed attendees. Elaine Jackson, Peace at Home Family Shelter outreach advocate, spoke about the importance of ending the cycle of abuse in Northwest Arkansas and throughout the state by sharing the powerful stories of domestic violence victims. The event raised over $22,000 to go toward the league’s mission and to fund programs with its partner agencies. www.juniorleaguenwa.org

The Wine Opener

On Feb. 7, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation hosted The Wine Opener at John Q. Hammons Convention Center in Rogers. More than 1,000 individuals attended to support the organization and sample hundreds of wines, as well as cocktails from six specialty bars and a huge selection of beer. Amanda Williams captivated the audience with her story of her two daughters, Makenna and Madison, and their battle with cystic fibrosis and how the foundation is giving hope for a cure. The Cocktail Club was the Private Reserve entertainment for the first hour and Boom Kinetic kept the energy going while guests danced into the evening. Guests enjoyed delectable food from local restaurants and caterers, including new restaurants such as Cheers at the OPO, Chicken Salad Chick, Simply Done and Torchy’s, and returning favorites Bonefish, Crabby’s Fish City Grill, Local Lime, Big Orange and more. The foundation raised more than $355,000 to go toward finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and providing quality care. www.cff.org

Chilirhea Charity Cook-Off

On Feb. 8, the final Chilirhea Charity Cook-Off presented by the Scott family took place at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Fayetteville. More than 1,000 people and 29 teams helped in raising money and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease. Festivities included a kids zone, silent auction, live entertainment by The Uncrowned Kings and a chili cook-off competition. Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan proclaimed the day “Chilirhea Day” due to the impact the event had on the community. This year’s overall champion team was Simmons Bank. More than $122,000 was raised which will go to the Opal Scott Alzheimer’s Fund, an endowment benefiting Alzheimer’s Arkansas and the UAMS Reynolds Institute on Aging for years to come.www.chilirhea.net

Ooh! La, La, a Chocolate and Wine Pairing Dinner

On Feb. 11, the Jackson L. Graves Foundation hosted its 11th Annual Ooh! La, La!, a chocolate and wine pairing event at TheatreSquared in Fayetteville. The event kicked off with a champagne reception, featuring artisan chocolate sampling from Markham & Fitz, followed by a three-course, sit-down dinner with chocolate infused in each course. Dinner was presented by local chef, Devin Gamache, of Theo’s Fayetteville; local chocolatier, Preston Stewart, of Markham & Fitz; and Karen Furnival of Southern Glazers of Arkansas. Guests enjoyed commentary from Chef Gamache, Furnival and Stuart. Approximately 120 guests helped in raising over $21,000 benefiting the Jackson L. Graves Foundation’s projects. www.jacksongraves.org
